I’m ready

Monday, October 5, 2020

I was up early to make it to the grocery store in their senior’s time period. I didn’t want to go too early though as I wanted to go to the post office before I came home.

I picked up a few groceries for Thanksgiving – turkey breast, stuffing mix, and pumpkin pie filling and pie crusts. I forgot the whipped cream but Pat will be back this week and can pick it up and take it over when he goes back to the studio. I thought I was just in time for the post office but when I got through the lobby they hadn’t actually opened yet. I was first in line and in and out very quickly.

When I came home my next task was to get things organized for the Hall meeting tonight. I had most of it prepared but I needed to gather a few papers and get them ready to go. I’m finding that not having the secretarial task makes meeting prep much easier.

I had a couple of things to take down to the shed and when I opened the shed door to put them away I noticed the lawn mower. I got it out and did two rounds of the yard. I didn’t do the boulevard as it has looked like rain off and on all day and any excuse works for me!

I have all my fabric ready for a sew-along Stacia, Deloise and I are doing later in the week. I even purchased my quilting treats at the store this morning. I dug out fabric for my October UFO project; I’m going to have Pat take it across to the studio so it will be waiting for me when I go over.

I finished the virtual Irish tour this afternoon. This tour was interesting but not nearly as good as the Amalfi Coast was. I’m a little tentative about watching the Paris tour as I expect there will be a lot in it that we didn’t see and I will be jealous.

While meandering through the web this morning I sorted out a Christmas gift. Finding presents is going to be harder than ever this year.

It isn’t just fog

Alias Grace – Jagged Edge

I finished my first Alias Grace block yesterday. I had to design this one based on the sketch at the front of the first section of the book and I’m glad it was such an easy one. I’ve looked at the second block and it is a different size but I think I’ll be able to redraft it to end up with the same 16″ block.

Last night I watched an online concert with Connie Kaldor. I enjoyed the show but for $20 I expected more than an hour. I received a copy of her recipe book along with my ticket. She has the flapper part of Mum’s Flapper Pie recipe in her book. I chatted with Connie a bit through e-mail and sent her Mum’s Chocolate Vienna Torte (Chocolate Angel Food recipe) which she says will be in the upcoming and expanded version of the cookbook.

I finally caught up on my Hex-Along this morning. When I was halfway through the last clue I thought I should get out for a walk. I got dressed, put on shoes and socks and headed out the door. It was a short walk as not only was there fog but it was also spitting rain. I walked half a block to the church, circled around City Hall and came back home. I’m glad I didn’t take my library book with me (to return) as it would have been quite damp before I got to the library.

I’m going to spend the rest of the day cross stitching and maybe knitting. It just feels like a day to do not much of anything.

Another day gone

Friday, October 2, 2020

I had plans for today and if it was still ten in the morning I’d be doing very well. But since it is after three in the afternoon I haven’t really done very well.

September 24 – Scottie

While I was turning over my daily calendar this block came up. I knew that I’d made it before as a birthday card to someone who really likes Scottie dogs. It was at least two years ago that I made it but I wasn’t about to make another one.

But let me get back to yesterday; until I missed my e-mail this morning I hadn’t realized I didn’t do a post for yesterday. I did it in my mind but I guess that doesn’t really count. I finished off the masks in the morning. The larger one is for me – I wanted a “fall” one for the Guild for the meeting last night. The purple one is for Taylor as this, apparently, was her favourite fabric.

There were a few things I needed to do this morning related to the meeting last night. I’ve had so many questions regarding the first clue of the mystery that was released yesterday. I’ve participated in a number of mysteries over the years and I had no idea that we were allowed to ask these questions. Hopefully the next clue will go easier.

With a Hall Board meeting coming up on Monday I did a bit of work, which included a long conversation with our bank. They upgraded their system and it seems they’ve had nothing but problems. I got mine sorted out for now but they want us to change to an entire new system and I’m not sure we’re ready for it. I’ll have to review a lot of literature before the meeting and try to make a knowledgeable presentation.

I wanted to make my first Alias Grace block this morning but that didn’t happen so I’ve scrapped that idea until tomorrow. I’m going to work at catching up on my Hex-Along. Parts 8 and 9 are ready to attach to the “mother ship” and I have an easier clue to work on for Part 10.

Thank you to Stacia and Deloise for chatting today – already I feel better.

More masks

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

Card-making was on my schedule for today. There are no October birthdays but Hallowe’en is coming up so I’m working on some themed masks to send out to my grandchildren. I know some of the grandkids don’t wear these homemade ones but it makes me feel better to be sending them something now and again. What hurts the most is that they are growing and changing so fast and I’m missing it all – okay, now I’m crying so I’m moving on.

I had some Guild work to do this morning. I hadn’t expected that we would have a meeting this month but it was announced that we’ll have another parking lot meeting tomorrow. We’ll start earlier, at 4:30 rather than 7:00, so we should be home before dark. I’ll be sending out the first mystery clue tomorrow morning and helping at the membership table tomorrow night.

And speaking of the Guild, we are still doing the blocks of the month. I had the block cut out yesterday and first thing this morning I finished sewing it.

Another member of the Hall board dropped off some paperwork and money this morning. He says he’s heard of a business in town who have several workers who are off work due to “flu-like conditions”. I hope it is just the flu but I’ll be watching for news of another Powell River outbreak. It is very hard to get any information from the Public Health reports but there are a few local sources that often give more detailed information.
