I found a home for it

Tuesday, December 29, 2020

This summer when we planned to have all the kids here I had a basket full of quilting that I wanted them to go through and pick out whatever they wanted. Of course we never got together and my basket is overflowing even after Pat has taken a few for himself.

I’m glad this one found a home at Kathryn’s, even if she didn’t pick it out herself.

I finished it quite some time ago, when I wasn’t as keen on appliqué as I would be now. Click here for the details.

12 Days to Christmas

Sunday, December 27, 2020

I have the most fun as I prepare for my 12-Days package that goes to each of the kids. My Christmas present ideas are usually pretty lame (gift cards) so I like to have some fun with the pre-Christmas presents.

On the first day everyone got Christmas-themed masks.

Pieces of a puzzle filled up four days, scattered throughout the twelve days. I picked puzzles of places Pat and I had been (Paris, Venice and Burano) and included a photo that we took in each of these places. I hoped that the photo was enough like the first bit of puzzle that they would think that was the picture they were making. They were instructed to send me a photo of the finished puzzle for an extra treat. Elizabeth and crew were the first past the finish line.

I struggle to find games that everyone might like. This year each family got a game of Jacks. I remember playing this for hours and was actually quite good at it.

They also received instructions on how to play a card game – Garbage – as well as another game played with cards called Ask Me Anything which I purchased last Christmas when we were in Victoria.

I added chocolates, cake-in-a-mug mixes and some word games.

I already have four ideas for next year’s package.

A bit of fun

No chance for any sewing today. I called the “machine guy” and he said to bring my machines in right away as he was home. I didn’t even have time to clean them. I was in a bit of a panic as I couldn’t find the cover for either of the machines. When I changed my room around I really tucked them away. Fortunately, after I located them, it didn’t require moving anything too much to get them out.

I worked a ball of yarn into my afghan last night and realized it was going to be pretty small if I didn’t change my plan in some way. I only had four balls of the yarn I was using but I found more yarn in a colour that I thought would work with it. I did a few rows and I think it looks like I planned the pattern that way all along. Hopefully with the extra yarn it will make up into a decent-sized lap afghan.

I was reminded again on Facebook about that cute little snowbird Christy posted to my timeline. I found some yarn and gave it a try; so far, so good. I don’t have the exact colours called for but I have enough colours that will work.

I’ll be baking and cooking most of the day tomorrow – Tourtiere for supper (along with a spinach salad). For Christmas day I planned on Mum’s chocolate angel food but I’m going to make it tomorrow and we’ll have it on Christmas Eve and Christmas – and probably Boxing Day and beyond.

Maybe I’ll even do a bit of cleaning as well.
