Not much done today

Thursday, April 8, 2021

I puttered around in my sewing room this morning and didn’t accomplish much of anything. My quilting project needs binding done and I really didn’t feel like doing it so it was very slow going. I got my work done and distributed for the next Hall meeting so I guess that was an accomplishment.

It was a nice day out so after lunch I tackled some yard work. I was trying to clear out the grass from our succulent patch. I should have tackled it last year but never got to it and this year it is a real mess. The succulents are spreading well but I think the best way to get rid of the grass will be to dig them out entirely and replant them. Pat says he will help me do that so for now that side of the garden is done.

I was tired when I came back inside and everything ached. Why I thought spending a couple of hours at my computer would help I’m not sure. To be fair though my back doesn’t hurt as much but my wrists are still sore. I think I’ve downloaded everything I needed for the Guild updates and archives so I’ll get busy and start loading them onto the site now that I’ve cleared off all that space.

Now this is more like it

I’m very happy to be back to quilting today. It seems like a long time since I started quilting this project but I’ve had a good day and I think I’ll be able to finish it tomorrow. The weather is going to be good all this week and next so I need to get outside and do some yard work.

It was a Guild check-in day but only four of us showed up. I volunteered to look after a gift for one of the members who is leaving but, other than collecting some money, it won’t be a difficult job. Members can donate at the quilt shop or send me an e-transfer; so far I’ve had lots of responses saying what a good idea it will be. It would be nice if we could somehow have an outdoor get-together to actually say goodbye but time will tell if that’s a possibility.

Enough is enough

You probably think I took a vacation over the Easter break. You’d be wrong. I worked almost three full days (and I mean from morning coffee to supper) working at archiving the Guild’s blog. I’m not really finished but I managed to get our usage down from 98% to 20% so that will give me a bit of breathing space to add some new photos. There is still some work (a lot of work) that needs to be done before the archived years are ready to be printed off and sent to our library.

There were some parts of the process that I enjoyed. There were lots of photos that I recognized as my own projects. I also enjoyed seeing the faces of several members who have come and gone in the eleven years I’ve been a member; for nine of those years I’ve been photographing and blogging about our activities. Perhaps the oddest thing to see though was that several of the shirts and sweaters I wear now showed up in photos from eight or nine years ago. I must go shopping once this pandemic is over.

Along with my knitting and book reading I’ve managed to finish another cross stitch block. I think I have eight left to go.

We’ve had a lovely day today; I was out to do an errand at the Hall and to pick up a few things for supper. Pat is making pulled pork and I made a potato salad to go with it. Almost like a summer meal.

Focus

I’m quilting today. The pattern I’m using is an easy one and one that I’ve used many times. I don’t even have to mark the top as the seam lines pretty much tell me where I need to point my needle. The pattern is from corner to middle, from middle to corner around the block in eight lines until I am back in the starting corner. Sounds easy enough.

It was going well until at one point I lost my focus and had to take out a line of stitching. No problem. Then I sewed again and still didn’t get it right. I know what the issue is. Each of the blocks is made up of four smaller blocks and each of those smaller blocks is positioned differently so corner to middle in one block isn’t necessarily the same in the next three.

After reverse stitching a couple of times I started putting a flower-head pin in the middles and the corners. The heads of the pins for the middles face a different direction than the head of the pins in the corners. So far, so good.

But now that I have a method I think I’ll stop for the day and move on to something else. At the Guild virtual meeting last night I said I was going to take the photos from the Facebook page and put them into our blog. Why I said that I have no idea except they wanted a report and I had nothing. It’s been an easy task to get the pictures off Facebook but it will be another matter entirely getting them onto the blog.
