New chair

Wednesday, August 18, 2021

I’ve got a new chair – well to be honest Pat got a new chair and I got a new-to-me chair (his old one). It is so comfortable I’ll be able to spend hours at my computer (as if I don’t already) and I have enough chairs in my space that I don’t have to keep moving them from one spot to another depending on where I’m working. I can even say that some of that desk-mess has been tidied.

I’ve posted a couple of quilting finishes over the past few days, as well as a book finish this morning. I wasn’t sure if anyone was actually going to the website but I had a message this morning from someone who had looked (thank you Barb) as well as Kathryn telling me last night that she had been checking it out. I often feel like I’m writing into the void but as long as I know someone is reading it I’ll continue.

We are waiting this afternoon for our farm produce to arrive and then we’ll head across to Texada for a week. Pat will need to come home one night for his performance on Sunday evening but I’m fine staying overnight on my own. I’m hoping to get my September cards done (there are a lot of them) as well as two mystery quilt tops put together. And just in case time stands still over there I have my blackwork embroidery, some cross stitch, a library book and a loaded Kindle.

If we are lucky we’ll make the 3:45 and, if not, we’ll be on the next one at six.

It’s like a jungle in here

Saturday, August 14, 2021

The show last night worked out very well. I spent the entire evening out on the deck at the Hall; it was the best place to be as several of our audience members came out from time to time to cool off and get a bit of air. I wasn’t inside the main hall during the show but I think the spacing worked out well. We made a few bucks by selling cold drinks and the performers each went home with a healthy cheque.

I was up early this morning so I could shop for groceries before the store got too crowded. I was home and had the groceries put away well before eight. Most of the rest of the morning was spent catching up on paperwork for the Hall

Late this morning and into the early afternoon I finished stitching down the binding on my Super Nova quilt. I don’t consider it “Done” until I have the website updated but I’m certainly finished this month’s UFO early.

For the rest of my day I’ve been working on my mixer cover. This one is just a trial run for one that I’ll make Christy. Not only is my fabric like a jungle it is so hot it feels like the jungle here in my sewing room.

What didn’t get done yesterday …

Thursday, August 12, 2021

What didn’t get done yesterday got done today – well almost everything. I have the binding ready to hand stitch on my quilt and I have my mixer cover pieces just about all quilted. I should be done them by supper time.

I’ve spent a lot of time on Hall work today getting ready for the show tomorrow night. We aren’t producing this show but I think we’ve done more work for it than we would one of our own shows. Maybe we are just out of practise but I thought our processes were streamlined a bit better than they seem to be right now. Mind you we have new Board members doing new things so there is some training involved, as well as new procedures for Covid safety. I’m doing my same-old same-old duties and trying to answer all of the e-mail questions that are coming at me from all directions.

It’s awfully hot today so I may defer stitching my binding tonight. It seems like it might be better done tomorrow morning when it is cooler.

Quilting

Wednesday, August 11, 2021

I had hoped the title would be quilting and more quilting but the day is almost over and I’m not going to get to the “more” part.

Yesterday was a sewing day with Stacia and Deloise. I managed to keep up to them and even had time to start a new project. Several months ago I thought about making a cover for my Kitchen Aid mixer but just didn’t get to it. Christy also wanted one and with her coming to visit at the end of the month I thought I should get at it. Yesterday I managed to get my test piece pinned together and sized and then I got it sandwiched for quilting.

I had three borders to do on my Super Nova quilt so my thought was that I’d get the quilting done, get it trimmed and sew on the binding. From there I would move on to quilting my mixer cover.

I have finished quilting my quilt but nothing has been trimmed and no binding has been cut. I also haven’t had time to do any quilting on the mixer cover. It’s always good to have something to look forward to for the next day.

Pat has an online event tonight so I’ll be starting this week’s Peppermint Purple pattern.
