Happy Birthday Asher

Under the Apple Tree (from The Splendid Sampler series)

I’m running short on options for my cards but I picked this one for Asher. Although the colours in no way reflect an apple tree, they do somewhat match our yard and apple tree; blue for our blue fence, green for the plants growing around the tree, white and orange for the daisies that grow nearby, and the other fabrics just because!

I was late getting it finished and combined with the long weekend she’ll be well past her birthday when it arrives.

I have noticed that the apples on our tree are beginning to ripen.

Circle of Friendship (from The Splendid Sampler series)

There was no problem in choosing this pattern for Vicki’s card. She and I have been friends for more than 40 years, having met in Yellowknife when our first-borns were babies.

Many of the fabrics used in the card are pieces from quilting friends and other projects I have made.

The Early Bird (from The Splendid Sampler series)

I took this card to the Island to work on but as I was putting the final pieces together I realized I had made a sewing error and it couldn’t be finished until I came home and found more of the fabric I had used.

The name of this pattern is particularly ironic because there is no way the card will reach Wyatt in time for his birthday.

Stitch Crazy (from The Splendid Sampler series)

Another embroidered card for another special someone!

I’ve never done any redwork although I brought home a few patterns from Houston that are intended to be done as redwork. I don’t think I have the right colour of red yet in my pearl cotton collection so that’s my excuse for not getting at those projects.

I am enjoying the embroidery work; although I still need more practice I think I am improving with each project.
