Happy Birthday Trio

June 23, 2018

For Ian
For Josh

When three guys in the family all celebrate a birthday on the same day it was an easy choice to find one pattern and do it in three different colour ways. And the sentiment suits them all. From oldest (Ian) to youngest (Josh) with Tynan in the middle. The pattern is Happy Thoughts from the Splendid Sampler series.

Happy Birthday Jenny

Full Circle (from The Splendid Sampler series)

Although the postings for Splendid Sampler II begin tomorrow I went back to a block from the first series for this card for Jenny.

I was able to use some fabric from a Guild Challenge that I didn’t participate in as the background. The lettering on the background is intentionally opposite so that no matter which way you are looking at the square you get a positive message.

Since I was working with a circle I used circles as my quilting motif.

Happy Birthday Ray

June 12, 2018

For several years I have used a “fishy” theme for Ray’s card. It is always fun to see what patterns I can find that will fit that theme. This year I wasn’t even looking when Missouri Star Quilt Co. came out with a tutorial called Summer School. I made my first fish in blue but while I stitched I couldn’t help hearing “Red Fish Blue Fish” in my head. So I added a red fish before calling it done.

The pattern uses a Cathedral Window technique for the tail – I’d never tried it before and it was nice to learn something new. And since I was on a “new” streak I decided to try my hand at free motion bubbles for the quilting. I think the proper term for the pattern is pebbles but that just wouldn’t work for fish!

Happy Birthday Sawyer

Simple Surprises (from The Splendid Sampler series) was my pick for Sawyer’s birthday. Hopefully there will be a surprise or two in store for him on his special day.
