Happy Birthday Barb

May 1, 2019

I really messed up on this one. Not only was I late in getting it put together, but when I finished the card and was getting ready for the mail I realized I didn’t have her mailing address. I know I’ve sent her cards before so who knows what happened to the address. Now that Barb has given me her address, I realize I didn’t take a photo before wrapping it up. And if you’ve every received a parcel from me you know you can’t easily open it up again even for a photo!

The card I made was Blue Ribbon from The Splendid Sampler 2.

UPDATE: Thanks to Barb for sending me a photo of the card.

This card was an experiment. I wanted to try a Disappearing 4-Patch block and I thought a card would be small enough to get the idea of how it looks. It turns out you really can make a block too small.

I started by making a simple, but small, 4-Patch block. When I decided that one block wouldn’t be enough I made three more. Each of the blocks were sliced and diced and then put back together.

Partly due to the fabric choices I made and partly because the pieces are so small you really don’t get the overall effect. I’ll have to try it again sometime!

This card/project didn’t turn out as I had hoped but it was too late to make another attempt at it.

This is called a snap bag and it is held together using a metal measuring tape. Pat uses a plastic baggie to carry some of his picks in and I thought this would be a better option.

The bag doesn’t close as tightly as I would have liked but it will work for holding some of his steel guitar picks.

I’m not sure if it was my issue with the pattern or if I’m wrong in how tightly the bag is supposed to close.

Cathedral Windows from Splendid Sampler 2

This was a new method for making the classic Cathedral Window block. In my mind, someday I’m going to make a Cathedral Window quilt (in fact Stacia has given me a pattern for one). I used some of my favourite ’30s Reproduction fabrics in this one.
