Happy Birthday Wendy

Tulip in Bloom (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

It may be a little late to pass a tulip card on to Wendy for her birthday. The weather has been so warm in our part of the country that the tulips are pretty much done for the year. Even the lilacs are almost done but there is still lots of colour from other flowers out in our yard.

Clamshells

Audrey has had a tough year so far and I wanted something “special” to send to her for her birthday card. Doing embroidery on my cards is about as special as they get.

This was among the first blocks to be released from the Splendid Sampler 2 book. I was determined to keep up with the sew-along since I’d failed miserably in keeping up with the first Splendid Sampler series. Sadly, keeping up lasted for only a few weeks.

Milk and Cookies (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I pulled this card from my bin before looking up the name. Milk and cookies should work for everyone’s birthday but, with some dietary restrictions in the family, cookies are a bit harder for Jody. It’s a good thing for her whole family that Jody is a trained baker!

Rose and Dot (for Christy)
For the Love (Kathryn)
For Elizabeth

When Elizabeth saw the baking-related fabric in one of my daily blocks she asked if I had any left. I did and asked her what she would like me to make her. She picked microwave bowls.

For years, every time I dug through a particular drawer for something I came across this bargello work that Mum did. The last time I was digging (for elastic for masks) I pulled it out and decided this was the year it needed to be done.

I save trimmings from a lot of different projects and used them for stuffing the pillow case inside; usually my trimmings go to the SPCA for dog pillows so I didn’t see why it wouldn’t work for a pillow for me. I even used some of Mum’s quilt top pieces as the backing for the pillow.

This looks very nice on my futon upstairs, along with the yarn doll Mum made.
