Potted Paislies (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I had my first fresh fig off a tree not long ago and if I hadn’t already picked the colours for this card I might have made a change. To me, those potted paislies look a lot like the shape of the fig. Mind you, the colours I picked aren’t exactly paisley anyway.

The appliqué on the card went very quickly – do I dare admit I kind of like appliqué now?

Out on a Limb (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

Why oh why do they put so many small pieces into a 6″ square? There are 57 pieces in this small block.

I was able to pull twelve half-square triangles from my scrap bin and that certainly saved me some time. I’ve lost a few points on the edges and not everything matches as it should be I’m happy to strike another pattern off this list.

Vicki is a very organized person and I doubt that she has ever found herself out on a limb.

Happy Birthday Deloise

July 24, 2021

When I was going through some of Mum’s cross stitch patterns and kits I came across a booklet that had a pattern Mum liked; she had made up a kit with the pattern, fabric and the floss. The pattern wasn’t something I was interested in so I took out the fabric and floss and added it into my own stash.

Before sending the magazine to the give-away bin I decided to see what else was in it. There, on the very next page, was this gnome pattern. I knew that Deloise had spent some time doing some online gnome knitting last winter; she ended up with some very cute ones in different sizes. I needed a “card” for Deloise and how could I not turn this pattern into a card.

When I was telling a friend about my timely find she said she would have made up a kit and sent the package rather than do it herself! So you’re lucky Deloise that I had already started stitching before I talked to her.

I hope this little project will find a spot on a shelf next to one of her gnomes.

Happy Birthday Stacia

Sewing Circle (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I honestly don’t remember whether or not this was fate and the ticket I pulled for Stacia’s card or if I found this one in the book and thought it was more suitable.

During the pandemic Stacia, Deloise and I have been video chatting every week and once a month we have spent some virtual time together quilting – some months only for a day but others up to three days. I have enjoyed every minute of our time and I hope we will continue our habit long after we are all back to normal. Virtual doesn’t replace in person but it was a great substitute.
