Happy Birthday Stacia

My Happy Place (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

It worked out perfectly that one of the few remaining blocks in this Splendid Sampler series is called My Happy Place. Stacia, Deloise and I recently spent a week in Deloise’s Happy Place (she even has a sign saying that). I think it is safe to say that both Stacia and I agree that Deloise’s Happy Place is our Happy Place.

I modified the pattern a bit by adding the tape measure (rather than embroidering a needle and tape measure). I used some of Mum’s fabrics on the design wall (which is actually made from batting). Rather than stitch around the appliqué shapes I did some straight-line quilting that caught at least some part of all the pieces.

Rather than facing or binding I again used the rotary pinking shears (thank you Stacia) to finish the edges.

Happy Birthday Christy

Stitch ‘n Paws (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I managed to get the embroidery done before my trip but it was a few days after my return home that I managed to find it again under all the piles I created when I unpacked boxes from my trip. I did just a few simple lines of quilting and then got it ready for the mail.

Because I was short of time I used a new-to-me tool that Stacia gave me. It allows you to cut fabric with a rotary cutter and the results are the same as if you used pinking shears. I’m not sure if the piece will unravel over time but it was a quick finish.

Christy loves her pets so this card, one of the few remaining in my book, was perfect for her.

Birthday Trio

Open Arms (from The Splendid Sampler 2 series)

It rarely happens that in all the cards I send out to family and friends more than one birthday happens on the same day. But on this day in June we have three birthdays in one day – Tynan, Ian, and Josh. I used the same pattern with different fabrics pulled from my scrap bins.

This is the first set of cards that I’ve used the facing technique on. It still needs a bit of work but I like the finish it gives.
