from the Quilter’s Block-a-Day Calendar (June 20)

I thought when I first showed this block Kathryn commented that she really liked it. However when I went looking in my files there was another one that was very similar that had her name attached. Maybe she liked them both?

Kathryn is the recipient of that tablecloth that I was unable to get the stamped ink out of. I know I gave many of you a good laugh at my antics with the soap bubbles. Hopefully when Kathryn uses it she will appreciate the lengths I took to make if perfect.

The tablecloth with the stamped pattern was one of Mum’s that she hadn’t started. I wish I had paid more attention to stitching “on the lines” and I might not have had the bother with the ink.

Fashionable Pineapple (from The Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I don’t know if Dave is a fan of pineapples but, living in Saskatchewan, I expect he dreams from time to time of a tropical vacation.

This was one of the first blocks released and, at the time, I thought it was kind of odd. It just shows that most blocks, once they are made, turn out okay.

Hashtag Love (from The Splendid Sampler 2 series)

When I made this card I knew it would be going to one of my grandchildren. I was glad to have it ready to send along to Dylan (A).

This card was one of the first ones I made with a facing. With a facing there is still some hand stitching to be done but the corners are easier than with a binding. The fabric comes from some 30’s reproduction fabrics that I purchased a long time ago.

So hard to believe Dylan will be tested for his driver’s license in a couple of days. Good luck!

Cheyenne (May 5th from the Quilters’ Block-a-Day calendar)

I already had a number of card tops made and it was just a matter of picking one for Brian and quilting it. I chose this top because the orange fabric came from Diane’s stash which Brian kindly send to me. 

As I studied it to figure out the quilting I thought something looked “off”. I double checked the location of the half-square triangles (because that is usually where I make my errors) but, in this case, it was the location of two of the other blocks that was wrong and it was an easy fix.

After looking through my books a couple of times I gave up on finding the block. It took longer to look through my Splendid Sampler books to find the name of the block than it did to put it together and get it into the mail. As it turns out this one didn’t come from my Splendid Sampler blocks but from my block-a-day calendar that I was working my way through during the first phase of the pandemic.
