Calendar Block – May

from Quiltish Corner

It turns out that April showers (the Umbrella last month) DO bring May flowers.

This was a quick project but it needed to be if it was going to arrive on time. I was able to dip into my colour-coordinated bins of squares so I didn’t need to do much cutting. Aside from a few mis-steps attaching the stems it could easily have been done in a day.

The quilting isn’t fancy but adequate. I want to work more on getting the backgrounds (in this case the sky) in the same tone but not all the same fabric. There is always something to work on.

Estelle (from the Splendid Sampler 2 series)

No rhyme nor reason as to why I picked this card for Barb. There are only a few unmade blocks in my Splendid Sampler book and I thought this one was pretty. Of course I changed the colours from red, white and blue to simply blues. You may notice that the blues are some of the same fabrics that are in my mystery quilt.

I haven’t seen Barb since before the pandemic. I must correct that soon.

Summer’s Gift (from the Splendid Sampler series)

It is a good thing I wasn’t starting from scratch with this card or it would never have got into the mail with half a chance that it would arrive on time. There were 40 ends to knot and bury from all those quilting lines.

It isn’t quite summer yet but we are headed in the right direction.

Sew South (from the Splendid Sampler series)

I didn’t have time to start from scratch making a card so I dug into my stash of Splendid Sampler blocks and found this one.

I thought the colours might be a bit “girlie” but when Pat was admiring it he mentioned something about the shades of grey so I knew I was okay. Colour blindness has its advantages.
