Happy Birthday Gavin

Magic Squares (Bonus Block from The Splendid Sampler 2 series)

I spent some time going through the remaining bonus blocks from my two Splendid Sampler series. This one appealed to me because it looked fairly simple and would be quick to put together.

I had lots of time before this had to be mailed off to Gavin so I started the card from scratch. I’m please with how it turned out and I like the colours. I even put in a few snowflakes just in case Calgary isn’t done with winter yet.

Happy Birthday Dylan B

March 27, 2023

We have two Dylan’s in our family. Some refer to them as Big Dylan and Little Dylan but Little Dylan isn’t very little any more. I have always referred to them as Dylan B(urton) and Dylan A(tkinson).

This year’s card for Dylan is called Iowa from the Splendid Sampler series.

Happy Birthday Will

From the Quilter’s Block-a-Day calendar (April 4)

When I was cleaning up the Block-a-Day calendar blocks that I made during the Covid pandemic I set the big ones aside for quilt tops but many of them were the perfect size for cards.

I’d like to say I did some exquisite quilting on the card but you wouldn’t believe me. In fact the quilting was very simple but I totally forgot to take a photo before I wrapped it up and send it off.

Happy Birthday Taylor

Gran’s Button Jar (from The Splendid Sampler series)

Many of my cards fit into the “large letter” category at the post office but if you add much of anything else you are looking at a much higher cost. I’ve notices from several cards that buttons will put you over the limit. This year I was sending Taylor’s card in with their Christmas packages so it was easy to pack it in.

I don’t think Taylor has ever played with my buttons but I do know on one visit she sorted through some of my scrap squares and put them all neatly in piles. At that time I had a small drawer in a tabletop cabinet. I need her to do it again but this time the scraps are in bins!

As for my buttons, they are now stored in the old tin cup from the well on the farm.
