The Geneva Strategy

Author: Jamie Freveletti

Goodreads Rating * * * (I liked it)

This isn’t a book I’d normally pick off the shelf, but when it is given to you (and it fits in your suitcase), why not? I’m not a fan of books in a series that are written by someone other than the original author, but the story was exciting and kept my interest. There are some strong female characters in the book – it makes sense when you know that Jamie Freveletti is a woman.

The Marriage Lie

Author: Kimberly Belle

Iris and Will are happily married and hoping to start a family. When the call comes that Will has been killed in a plane that was headed to Seattle Iris cannot believe it; Will was supposed to be on a plane headed to Orlando where he would be the keynote speaker at a conference. As Iris tries to sort out the reasons for Will’s deception she finds his lies go much deeper than she could have imagined.

I kept thinking I knew what was going on and then all of a sudden something would happen and I’d have no clue. The surprises kept coming right up to the last paragraph.

Big Little Lies

Author: Liane Moriarty

This was a fun and easy read. There is nothing too serious in it, although right from the start the hint of murder comes up. Three women become friends when their children enter Kindergarten. On the surface they seem like they have it all, or most of it anyway. But there are secrets hiding in their lives and it isn’t until a school trivia night brings everything to the surface. I love how each chapter has the remarks of others from the school – mostly catty but fun to read.

This has been made into a TV series but I don’t think it is available on Netflix. I’m not sure how it would be done as a weekly show, but I’d like to find out.

The Associate

I hadn’t intended to read a “real” book before my trip but my Kindle was packed and I needed something to read before bed on my last night at home. I finished the book in a day – as with all Grisham novels it wasn’t easy to put it down – but I was disappointed in the ending. Is there a sequel? I need closure.

Kyle is a student, almost ready to take his bar exams. He plans to work in legal aid for a few years before moving on to something more lucrative. But before that can happen an indiscretion from his past makes him a target for blackmail.

The Promise Girls

After a successful book tour by their mother, three young prodigies are appearing on a talk show when the eldest makes a decision that will alter all of their lives. The story picks up again several years after that incident, when the adult girls are moving on with their lives although still damaged by their past. The mother of the girls has secrets that won’t be revealed until near the end of the story but even her past isn’t the only surprise left at the end of the book.
