This is another book that came to me through Kathryn and Regan – who needs Amazon!

The story takes place in the future (2079) when the narrator is 102 years old. All this on the first page so I was skeptical regarding the rest of the book. Although each section has a prologue taking place in that time period, the story she is telling is told in a linear manner.

There are three sisters and a brother left to fend for themselves after their father dies and their mother retreats into her own world for about three years. Growing up, each of the sisters adored their one brother and as he spiralled out of control they each reacted in a different manner. At the heart of the matter is a search for Luna, their brother’s girlfriend who they believe he intended to propose to.

Author: Josie Silver

As I was reading the book in my mind I was thinking about how I would review it here. I knew for certain it would start with “Girl on a bus meets the eyes of Boy on a bench”. The rest of the review would read along the lines of Boy and Girl.

At almost the last paragraph of the book Boy sums it up perfectly – “Boy sees girl. Girl sees boy. Boy gets on the bus, kisses girl’s face off, and they live happily ever after.”

That may describe the start and the end of the book but there are ten years between. The book is divided into years, and each year is told from the perspective of Boy and Girl.

Thanks to Regan for passing this one along. As I was looking for a photo of the book cover I see that it was one of Reese’s Book Club offerings (Reese Witherspoon that is). I’ve tried to follow her book club but our library hardly ever has her books available and the one time I was able to get the book it wasn’t very good.

Author: Kate Quinn

I really liked the book and, in fact, read well past my bedtime a few nights. There are a few storylines going on but they are easy to follow and all is resolved at the end. I found it quite interesting to read about the pilots taking Coca-Cola tablets to keep them awake during night bombings and the withdrawal symptoms one character experienced when she stopped taking them.

I particularly enjoyed reading the author’s notes at the end of the book. She tells you who the characters are based on, and what parts are true and what parts are entirely fiction.

Author: Geraldine Hogan

Detective Iris Locke has been working undercover although what she really wants is an assignment to the murder section. She get’s her wish when she is sent to Limerick to assist in the deaths of a mother and her two children. Not only does Locke have to deal with new colleagues but she also is the daughter of a well-respected Inspector who worked out of the same squad.

This is the first in a series. I enjoyed the writing and I liked the characters. The second book in the series has been released and I’ve ordered it with an amazon card that I received for Christmas.
