The Break

Author: Marian Keyes

I think this book was a recommendation from either Tracie or Regan.

I’m not sure how I want to rate this one. I enjoyed the story and most of the characters but I didn’t like the ending; I was looking for something different to happen.

About half-way through the book there was a page missing. Fortunately it wasn’t in a critical part of the story. Before I sent it back to the library I attached a note about the missing page; I didn’t want them to think I did it.

Dead Water

Author: Ann Cleese’s

It took me almost two full days of reading but I got the book finished before it was due back at the library.

This Shetland series is never a disappointment, even if you’ve seen the entire Netflix series. I’m hoping the series is still available as I’d like to watch the last couple of shows that follow these last couple of books.

The Private Patient

Author: PD James

I’ve been clearing off bookshelves in anticipation of the basement restoration. I’m not sure how long I’ve had this one but it was time to get it read and set aside either for our own book sale (which we couldn’t do this summer) or as a donation.

I normally love a P.D. James book and her characters. Dalgliesh is back but his side-kicks weren’t ones I had come across in other readings so I didn’t feel any kinship with them. I thought it was interesting that in the latest Cleese’s book I was reading how the love interest was murdered and in this book I was reading about Dalgliesh in the weeks before his marriage. I know Emma, Dalgliesh’s wife, is murdered in a book that comes later in the series.

Blue Lightning

Author: Ann Cleesves

The hot weather hit just at the right time; I couldn’t abide doing anything other than sit under the ceiling fan and read my book.

In a later book in this series (this one is #4) I knew that Perez’s fiancé had been murdered and I’ve been on the hunt ever since to find the book where that happened. This is the one.

I saw this story as part of the Shetland series on Netflix; I want to go back to it and see how closely it follows the book. I’m pretty sure there was never any mention of the murder and I don’t recall that there had never been any explanation of the circumstances whereby Cassie came to live with Perez.

I got a notice today from the library that book #5 in the series is waiting for me to pick up. Bring on the hot weather!
