Finally

Sunday, June 10, 2018

Today was the day; today was MY day. I slept in later than usual but I was still up in my sewing room before ten. I ignored my computer and all the Action Items I had flagged and got straight to stitching. Well maybe not straight to … I had to unload, set up and put away a few of my purchases from last week in order to get at the cutting table, pressing station and sewing machine.

It has been so long since I’ve done any stitching I was happy as could be even though I was working on cards with templates, curved seams and paper piecing. I got to use a few of my new gadgets (my thread holder, and my pressing tool) and I was pleased not to use one of the new tools (my seam ripper).

I had a brief moment when I thought I should cut the grass but I gave myself a stern talking to and got over it. I picked the strawberries though so I did a bit of yard work; I had enough white and red strawberries to add to my smoothie!

I’ve got lots more cards to get to so I’m back at it now.

Book Club

This had an all-star cast and I think it should have been better than it was, but maybe that’s just me. I’m not a Diane Keaton fan and her character was all Diane Keaton. Although I really like Jane Fonda I’ve come to see that she isn’t a great actress. I’ve not seen much with Mary Steenburgen but I don’t think she was extraordinary in her role here. The one that gets all the stars, for me, was Candice Bergen. I hadn’t realized before going into the move that the book they were reading was Fifty Shades of Grey (and the sequels); that added a bit of fun to the mix.

The Unquiet Daughter

Author: Danielle Flood

I’m not sure what prompted me to load this book onto my Kindle but I really enjoyed it.

The author spent most of her life trying to identify who her father was; the man she lived with and presumed to be her father turned out not to be. At different times during her life her mother gave her the names of several men who she claimed were the father. After the author’s step-father left the family she became no more than a servant (or slave) to her mother, always wondering why she wasn’t loved and trying to keep her circumstances hidden. As an adult she is able to find her father; it was a long and convoluted path and she had very little time to spend with him before he died.

The author feels very strongly that it is her parents’ story that is told in the book The Quiet American by Graham Greene. You can be sure I’ve added that one to my list.

One Final Day

Saturday, June 9, 2018

Pat and I went out for breakfast this morning before doing some grocery shopping; Pat packed up and caught the noon ferry back to Texada.

I spent the first part of my day working on Pat’s accounting. There are still a few gaps but it will be ready for the accountant in plenty of time for his GST filing date.

I did some follow-up work for the Guild that was the result of our latest business meeting, and then I started work on the minutes and follow-up from the Cranberry Hall meeting last night. It’s not how I would have chosen to spend a Friday night but the meeting went on until 9:30; I decided to finish up all of the resulting work today so that tomorrow I can get back to some sewing.
