Frozen

Elizabeth asked me if I had any Frozen fabric left from the quilt I made for Taylor. She looks after a friend’s daughter from time to time and Oceana loves Frozen. I dug into my stash and found a few fabrics; next I had to find a pattern that would be simple to make and that would suit the pieces of fabric I found.

As I had larger quantities of some of the fabrics I thought I might manage a 3-Yard quilt. Although I didn’t have enough fabric to make the quilt as large as the pattern, it turned out to be a nice size for a little girl.

I’m not sure why I had the Olaf fabric but there was more than enough to cover the back.

Happy Birthday Gavin

April 4, 2026

Chicago Geese (April 4 from Quilter’s Block-a-Day Calendar)

It is only fitting that I’m late posting Gavin’s card. As I write this his card is also late getting to him.

It seldom works this way when I’m doing blocks from my calendar but this year it worked out just right.

Purple Spring

Author: McClung, Nellie L.

I was waiting downstairs for Pat one day and saw this book on the shelf; I thought must have come from Mum and Dad’s library. However, the inscription inside has a name that I don’t recognize and a Fergus, Ontario inscription. Could it have been one of Grandma McKnight’s?

Pearl Watson has been in love with Dr. Clay, the rural doctor, since she was 15; he returned her feelings but said they must wait three years. The three years have passed. Pearl has attended “Normal” school and is ready to start her first teaching job. It is a time when women didn’t have the right to vote and, in fact, they had very few rights. Both Pearl and the doctor get involved in the politics of the day in order to change that.

The story takes place in the Souris Valley in Saskatchewan, although the author is from Alberta. I was very interested when one of the characters had ties to the North; she lived for a time at the Hudson’s Bay post in Fort Resolution and was married in Hay River. That character turns out to have a surprising part in the story.

If you like old-fashioned stories with a happy ending you’ll enjoy this one.

Congratulations Alex

Alex’s graduation ceremonies aren’t until June but he was looking to be fashionable for the big day so I contributed to his wardrobe. And doesn’t he look amazing?

Alex already has two scholarships and has been accepted into more than one university. No matter what he decides to do, or where he decides to go, I am very proud of his accomplishments.
