Nothing Like a Dame

In some ways I was disappointed in the movie; in some ways I loved it. These four Dames apparently get together often for visits and this time their visit was captured on camera.

There was a lot of footage from theatre productions they starred in, as well as from their movies. We saw each of them being awarded their Damehood, and various awards for their acting.

I loved it because you could see the brilliant sense of humour they each have and I suspect, without the cameras, things get quite wild. On the other hand some of the conversations seemed rather stilted as they answered questions from someone off-camera.

One down

I have my Farmer’s Wife quilt finished. It took me the morning to get the binding stitched down. This afternoon I made a bit of a modification to the sleeve and got that stitched down. I’m not sure I’ll have time to get started on my Farmer’s Daughter – I’m feeling a little more like I want a nap than I want to sew.

After my meeting at the Hall I had several stops to make for the Guild. Although I had a couple of refusals, I had a few generous contributions. I have three more donations promised but they just weren’t ready yet. So I’ll have to make another round next week and maybe the week after. Once my quilt is done I’ll start organizing the donations into groups and making up some baskets. And then there all the magazines I need to deal with.

I’m off to the movie tonight. I’m so happy to have the Cinematheque series starting again. Except for the film festival I haven’t been to a movie for ages.

Can I do it?

I would really like to be ready for the quilt show by the end of the month – which means Thursday. I finished the Guild Challenge today and I put the binding together for my Farmer’s Daughter quilt.

I have a busy day tomorrow but I should have time to get the hand stitching done on the Farmer’s Wife quilt. I have a few calls to make regarding Guild door prizes and I have a meeting at the Hall in the late morning. Tomorrow night I’ll be out at the movies but in between times I should get quite a bit done.

I made a few more calls today regarding door prizes but I didn’t come home with anything. I had two refusals but they were nice about it. When I delivered my request letter one of the shops indicated they probably wouldn’t donate anything but I hoped that after they read my lovely letter (thanks Dave) that they would change their mind. The person I need to talk to wasn’t in so I’ll call back another day.

Two of the shops yesterday told me to come by today to pick up their donation. In one shop they said it wouldn’t be ready until this evening and the other shop said not until tomorrow. So I’ll add a couple more stops to my list tomorrow.

I’ll take time this afternoon to attach the binding to my Farmer’s Daughter quilt and it will be my Thursday afternoon project. I’ll want to show the ladies anyway and when I’m there I work on a table that gives lots of support for the quilt while I hand stitch.

After the last show I promised myself that I wouldn’t be getting quilts ready at the last minute. But two years ago the show was in April so, by moving the show up a month, I can be forgiven for being in a bit of a panic. However, as someone pointed out today, I’ve known the show dates for over a year so my excuse really doesn’t work for everybody.

Dirty Little Secrets

Author: Liliana Hart

This author has written a lot of books – there are six in this series alone. I won’t be reading any more of them though.

The heroine, J.J. Graves, is a mortician and the coroner in a small town. Her best friend is the sheriff. She has a good sense of humour and, while there are a few murders involved, the book seemed more like a romance novel than a good mystery. The murderer is only mentioned in six chapters and never even showed up on my radar. I like a mystery where I have at least a fighting chance of figuring out who-done-it.
