Labour Day?

Fan Dance (Block 131)

I know it’s Labour Day but I have to say, for me, it’s been more of a Lazy Day. I went to get groceries first thing but I was home in under an hour. While I had my coffee I started knitting and most of the morning was gone before I stopped.

Today is a quilting day according to my calendar so, after finishing my daily block, I got started. I was actually looking forward to working on the project, mainly because I want it done. I made pretty good progress today but with all the colour changes and stitch changes it is taking longer than I would like. Do I dare hope I can get the quilting done before we go to Texada so I can stitch the binding there?

Happy Birthday Jackie

Opposing T’s (from the Block A Day series)

I try to find a block pattern that I can somehow relate to the person receiving it. None of my Splendid Sampler blocks were “doing it” for Jackie so I dug a little deeper into my patterns.

I recall much earlier in the pandemic when we were chatting and Jackie said she had cleared out a number of her T-shirts. She hadn’t actually done anything with them at that time but she had sorted through them. And I won’t tell you the number of T’s she came up with.

When I saw this block I knew it was the one for her – at least for this year.

Cleaning Up

Comfort Block (Block 130)

I’ve been busy cleaning up this morning so not much to show. I took a bit of time to make my daily block, mostly to give myself a break and because it was an easy one. My scraps are overflowing the bin and the basket but right now I’m concentrating on surfaces and the floor.

I’m itching to make a furniture move but I don’t think I’ll be able to get that done today. It involves a lot of shifting – from my desk to my sewing machines – and I haven’t yet measured to see if stuff will fit.

I’d better get back to it.

This is Your Life, Harriet Chance

Author: Jonathan Evison

Pat is going to be interviewing the author of this book later in the Fall. He asked me to order a couple of his books for him, which I did, but neither of those books appealed to me. But this one looked interesting so I got it on an Inter-Library loan.

It was certainly a quick and easy read. I’m not sure who the narrator is but we are hearing about Harriet’s life from the time she was a young girl and up to her 78-year old, present-day self. We also hear from Bernard, her deceased husband, who isn’t supposed to be back visiting her but there he is. It hasn’t been an easy life for Harriet but she has struggled through.

The story has a lot of back and forth in terms of timelines but the changes are easy enough to follow.
