Now this is more like it

I’m very happy to be back to quilting today. It seems like a long time since I started quilting this project but I’ve had a good day and I think I’ll be able to finish it tomorrow. The weather is going to be good all this week and next so I need to get outside and do some yard work.

It was a Guild check-in day but only four of us showed up. I volunteered to look after a gift for one of the members who is leaving but, other than collecting some money, it won’t be a difficult job. Members can donate at the quilt shop or send me an e-transfer; so far I’ve had lots of responses saying what a good idea it will be. It would be nice if we could somehow have an outdoor get-together to actually say goodbye but time will tell if that’s a possibility.

Enough is enough

You probably think I took a vacation over the Easter break. You’d be wrong. I worked almost three full days (and I mean from morning coffee to supper) working at archiving the Guild’s blog. I’m not really finished but I managed to get our usage down from 98% to 20% so that will give me a bit of breathing space to add some new photos. There is still some work (a lot of work) that needs to be done before the archived years are ready to be printed off and sent to our library.

There were some parts of the process that I enjoyed. There were lots of photos that I recognized as my own projects. I also enjoyed seeing the faces of several members who have come and gone in the eleven years I’ve been a member; for nine of those years I’ve been photographing and blogging about our activities. Perhaps the oddest thing to see though was that several of the shirts and sweaters I wear now showed up in photos from eight or nine years ago. I must go shopping once this pandemic is over.

Along with my knitting and book reading I’ve managed to finish another cross stitch block. I think I have eight left to go.

We’ve had a lovely day today; I was out to do an errand at the Hall and to pick up a few things for supper. Pat is making pulled pork and I made a potato salad to go with it. Almost like a summer meal.

Behind Her Eyes

Author: Sarah Pinborough

We watched the first episode of this series on Netflix and thought it was a light romantic comedy. We didn’t carry on with it but when I saw the book had a good rating from someone on one of my lists I picked it up from the library. Boy were we wrong about the story.

Louise meets David one night at a bar and they both feel a spark of a relationship but it goes no further. When Louise arrives at work the next day her new boss is David. Later in the week Louise runs into Adele, who is David’s wife; Louise knows she is David’s wife because she saw David and Adele being welcomed into the practise by another partner. Adele doesn’t want David to know that she knows Louise so Louise doesn’t mention it. Sound complicated – just wait until David and Louise start an actual affair.

I had several theories throughout the story as to how it was going to end. I was surprised by the second to last chapter but was satisfied with the ending. The last chapter set everything on its head and I never could have imagined it.

Goodreads Rating: * * * * *

Afghans and Scarves

My evening knitting has been going very well thanks to the never-ending series Resurrection:Ertugrul.

This is quite a heavy afghan as it is crocheted with two strands of yarn. It is meant to allow you to use any weight of yarn along with a common yarn throughout. It was good at using up bits of yarn ends without thinking about if it was a lot lighter than the main yarn but it turns out very heavy and, I think, could actually be used as a rug.

On the other hand this afghan is very soft. It is made up of several different kinds of textured yarn but they are all pretty much a similar weight. I tried some other textured yarns in this but they were a bit too light so they got pulled out of the bin for other projects. In fact one of the yarns will be used in a scarf that uses the same pattern.

These scarves were a new pattern for me but I like it and will probably use it again. In this case the yarn was too heavy for either of the afghans.
