It’s good to be back in the city

Monday

I spent all morning at my computer and continuing to sort through some of the kits and patterns I brought back from Texada. One of the sites that I hoped to be able to use to sell some of the crewel embroidery won’t allow it; I have sold strictly cross stitching things there previously and that is all they want. Someone messaged me regarding another site and I’m jut waiting on confirmation that they will accept the crewel. If they do I may try putting everything on that site so I don’t have to monitor two places.

It was already after one when I remembered that the library closed at two; I had four books to return and another one to pick up. I was hoping the second book I had on order would be ready but it wasn’t so I’ll have to make another trip another day. The door to the library is usually propped open but today it was closed due to a bear in the area; it is so good to be out of the wilderness and back in the city!

For the first time since the pandemic began I actually had to wait outside the library because they were at their people capacity. I have to say I was a little nervous being outside with the “Bear in the Area” sign prominently posted. I didn’t have to wait long though and it was a short visit once I was inside.

On the way home I dropped a bag of cans and bottles at the bottle recyclers. I love their system where you put everything in a bag, put a label on it with your details, and drop if off in the bin they provide. This is my second experience using it and I was in and out in no time at all. In fact I was home again before two.

I have a meeting tonight so I’d better get my notes together for it and maybe there will be enough time to start that new project I found while I was doing my sorting.

Guild Challenge – 2021

At the beginning of the Guild year we purchased a brown bag with a fat quarter of fabric and an idea of what we were to make.

“Timberlane Quilt Challenge 2020/21
During this strange year of Covid 19, the heart shape has become a symbol of thankfulness, hope and compassion for others.
For our challenge this year, please;
– make a quilted table topper, in any size or shape you like
– use the challenge fabric in your quilt top
– incorporate at least 1 heart shape in your design
– include at least 1 heart shape in your quilting together of your layers
– have fun, stay safe and be kind”

approx. 25″ x 21″

This year I used the fabric for the background and found a pattern online from one of my favourite sites – Temecula Quilt Company. I searched for a heart (or valentine) and came up with the Vintage Valentine pattern. The centre of the heart uses a number of small squares that came from another Temecula pattern – Tiny Trees. So I was set.

I had set aside a number of red fabrics for my log cabin quilt so it wasn’t difficult to find enough reds to use for the patterns. Now that it is finished and I’ve reviewed the criteria I see that I missed one element.

I’ve ended up really liking the pattern, but I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it now that it is done.

Now that I’m relaxed and rested …

Sunday

We came home on the noon ferry and, except for our own personal bins, we are unpacked. After lunch we retired to our own areas to finish settling in.

For me that meant heading upstairs to see what I missed on my To-Do list while I was away. I managed to clear up a few things on the list (the quick ones) as well as pay a few bills. Because I finished a few hand stitching projects while we were away I was able to check some of them off completely. My UFO for June was unveiled and my May UFO is barely started. There is more Guild work to be done and I have a Hall board meeting tomorrow night.

I brought back from Texada a whole bin of cross stitch and crewel embroidery projects. I need to sort through all of them and see what I want to keep and see what I can let go of. While I do that I figure I may as well sort through the other bin of kits and patterns that I have. No matter how hard I try I can’t seem to get ahead in the “divesting” department.

So, with that much to do I’d better get busy.

Saturday

I was sitting at my desk cross stitching just now. It had just started to rain and I could hear it hitting the rooftop. When I looked out the window to see how hard the rain was coming down I saw a deer. When Pat was trying to see it from the bedroom window he spotted another one. It was hard to get the two of them in the same photo with the added problem of my camera battery running low. The one in the foreground is now laying on the grass under a tree; he’s possibly waiting for the rain to let up before they move on.

I’m having more issues with my mail delivery system. Once, when my post didn’t come through, I thought maybe I had posted too late. That particular post came through the following day. But a post I did yesterday morning didn’t come through either so I have no idea when or if this post will come through as an e-mail.

If it does come through as a separate post you can always click on the Recent Article links to see things that have been missed.
