Happy Birthday Jackie

September 6, 2025

I had so much trouble with this card – not the card itself but getting it into the mail.

Issue #1 – The card I made for Regan was initially put into Jackie’s envelope. Yes, each card I send is matched to the recipient. I realized my error, opened the envelope and got Regan’s card in the mail.

Issue #2 – I finished Jackie’s card and stuck it in her envelope, stamped it and put it on the counter for mailing. It was then that I realized I hadn’t taken a photo so I had to open the envelope AGAIN, get a photo and seal it back up.

I’m not sure it will get to Jackie in time for her birthday though.

The Pillars of the Earth

Author: Ken Follett

Pat bought this for me at the Texada Library’s book sale. They hold it every year on the August long weekend but because that is also the festival weekend I wasn’t able to attend so I was happy to get a gift from it. I have read another tome (1000 pages) by Ken Follett and wondered at first if I’d read it before. It seemed familiar but my website confirmed that I hadn’t read it.

The story takes place in the 12th Century at a time of upheaval between the royals and the Church. Tom Builder is a master craftsman and has started to build a cathedral at Kingsbridge. There is a lot of conflict during the story and although we move through two generations of builders I admit by the end of it I wanted some resolution to all the struggles.

Farmer’s Daughter Table Runner #1

This table runner is made from left-over blocks from a Cake Mix Recipe Deloise gave me. The fabric is from the Farmer’s Daughter line; the idea of a Cake Mix is that it is made from 10″ squares which, in the quilting world, are called layer cakes.

I worked on the original quilt and two table runners in 2020; some of the work was done when Stacia, Deloise and I sewed together. My thought was that it was a bit dull but Deloise put it much better – it’s a low volume project.

What I love most about this is the neutral fabric. Can you read any of the writing?

I have no idea why I would have purchased the fabric I used for the backing – paper dolls and cut-outs were never my thing.
