Happy Birthday Brian

December 11, 2025

You’ve seen it before and you’ll probably see it again.

However, I found a bag with several of these blocks inside so there might be enough to make a small quilt for donation. I’m a little tired of them as cards but I like having ready-made cards when I need them.

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

Author: Carson McCullers

This was definitely one of those books chosen by the cover. It’s been on my list for a long time and on a recent trip I downloaded it from Libby. It was almost time to return it when the hard copy I had requested from the local library came in.

I took a long time to read the book for a few reasons. Christmas was coming and I was busy planning, buying and wrapping gifts. I was reading on my phone and/or iPad and, because I was mainly reading in bed, it wasn’t comfortable. And, to be honest, I didn’t really care for the book.

The girl depicted on the cover is only one of several characters in a small Southern town in the 1930s. The characters all seem “broken” in some way and, although they are all connected, it didn’t feel like a continuous story but more like individual stories told over time.

Goodreads Rating: * * *

Hats

I needed a warm toque for my swims with the Popsicles and I had just the yarn for it. When we were in Ireland I purchased four skeins of wool in Donegal that I set aside for “something”. I made myself a simple hat and then made a second one for donation.

I still have some of the blue wool left and it, along with some of the other colours, will go into an art piece at some point. I have the pattern, just not the time.
