Done

Tuesday, July 23, 2019

It’s done (the manuscript) and I’m done! I would have liked to have slept in this morning but it was a bee day and I had nothing prepared. The alarm went off at six but I stayed in bed until seven. It is surprising how quickly you can pull things together when you need to.

I worked on a couple of cards today – they were for August birthdays so I’m feeling quite please that I’m not having to scramble at the last minute. One still needs to be quilted, but I didn’t have the right colour of thread with me.

I spent a bit of time on a Leader and Ender project. I wasn’t doing it as a Leader and Ender but I had some time to kill before lunch and just sewed some HSTs up.

After lunch I started hand stitching the binding on my Rail Fence quilt. I had an appointment at three and, since I was early, I stitched in the car for about half an hour until it was time to go into the office.

There won’t be much done tonight. I’m going to sit and watch TV and I’m not going to read anything for the rest of the day.

I’m almost finished

I spent most of the day yesterday at the computer, with only a small break to go to the Hall to clean out kitchen cupboards. Our renovations started today so everything in the kitchen had to find a new home. As Pat says, for someone not on the Reno Committee I’ve attended a lot of meetings and done a lot of work for the cause. From here on out it should be easier.

Today has been much the same. I’ve done laundry and hung three loads on the line. There has been a good breeze all day so they should be dry by now. I proof-read this morning but then had to take a break to get my reports ready for the Hall Board meeting tonight. Once they were done I was able to finish one more chapter.

I can honestly say that these last few days has given new meaning to the word “break”. And I can definitely say that I like the accounting work more than proof-reading (yes, I did find that $0.50 so my books balanced)!

It may be a late night, but I’m going to finish – even if I have to sleep at my computer!

More of the same

I was about to take a break from my proof-reading this morning when Pat sent me a message from Texada. Rather than return the message I picked up the phone and called him. While we were talking Pat said he had shared a Facebook memory and I should look at it. I didn’t feel like I had taken an actual break (because we talked mostly about the manuscript), so I started a bit of tidying up on my cutting table. In each of my breaks I’m trying to get a bit of work done.

A few minutes later the phone rang again; Pat had another post from Facebook he wanted to share with me. Since I was at my desk I decided to look at his Facebook posts. And that led me down the “internet tunnel” and before I knew it an hour had passed. The tunnel had one positive outcome – I found a Christmas gift idea!

The rest of the day followed my morning routine – some proof-reading, some tidying (mostly cutting scraps), more reading and more tidying. I took a long-enough break this afternoon to watch an episode of “Anne with an E” – the second season is available on Netflix.

I’ll get some supper now, maybe watch another episode, and then try to get another chapter done before bed.

I’m hiding

When I called Moreen yesterday to cancel the walk we had planned for this afternoon I told her I had so much work to do that I was going to pretend I was on Texada; I wasn’t going to go out or answer the phone.

Pat left for Texada on the early morning ferry. I told him I was screening calls but I would answer if he called. My plan was to stay at home and work on his manuscript. I’m halfway through and I’m so ready to be finished (as is he).

One call came in shortly after Pat left. It was Safeway but I didn’t answer it; I figured they’d leave a message if it was urgent. Then, not five minutes later, before he had even boarded the ferry, Pat called with just a small errand he needed done. To be honest he said he could do it next week when he came home but I knew he was only calling because he wanted me to do it.

While I was out I got my copying done at Staples and picked up a couple of bins (for Texada) that were on sale at Canadian Tire. I’ve spent the rest of the day reading (and correcting) but now I’m done for the day.

I have some knitting to do this evening; I am so close to adding another colour onto the shawl I’m making and I can’t wait to see how it looks. I also have binding to stitch on a quilt but I don’t think I’ll get at that today.
