As the house was cooling in the breeze last night I ran through my last load of laundry, and I had it out on the line by eight this morning. I would do that again when I have lots to do (which doesn’t happen often).
I had a couple of zucchini in the fridge that I intended to use in a loaf. I decided the oven would heat the house up too much last night even with a breeze so that was next on my agenda this morning. All was going well until I reached into the fridge for an egg and realized we didn’t have any. Fortunately Pat had to go out and was able to leave right away and get me the egg I needed. When he got home I got the loaf mixed up. Before it was even into the baking pan he was wondering if he could offer it to his writing group who were meeting here again today. Since he got the egg I couldn’t say no!
I was looking forward to my Red Cross shift today as I expected there would be some movement on the computer front. The convener was there when I arrived and she was, literally, dancing because we were up and running. When the tech finished setting up the network I logged on, changed a couple of passwords, and checked my Red Cross email account. It turns out I don’t have access to some of the things I need, but we’ll get that worked out.
Tuesday at the bee a couple of the ladies were voicing their displeasure with Windows 8. When they asked if I could help I said we were all Macs at home and I had lost touch with the PC side of things. This Red Cross machine is running (very slowly) Windows 7 and I expect I’ll have a few challenges as I learn those ropes again.
I had a bit of good news today when I talked to the Red Cross rep in Nanaimo. They plan to send someone over from the Courtenay office for a couple of days to help with the inventory. They hope to have it done by the end of August so doing it in small bits as I had planned won’t work. We’ll work some long days, but that will be better than being on my own with telephone support if I have questions.
I had to set the timer this morning so I could read my book, but not be late for my shift. I thought I could finish it before I had to leave, but I had one chapter left when the buzzer rang. As soon as I got home I sat out on the back step and finished Under the Dome. I have no idea what I’ll read next. I don’t think it will matter because I’m sure whatever it is won’t grab me the way this one did.
