Axel Pullover (2)

Last August, right after I finished the Axel Pullover for Taylor, Christy decided she wanted one too. The pattern came in about a dozen different sizes so it was no problem. I had to order the yarn from online as none of the stores I looked in while I was in the Lower Mainland had enough of it in stock.

I knit the sweater and then decided it was going to be miles to big for Christy. So I took it all apart and knit it again, this time in a smaller size.

I was thrilled to receive this photo from Christy with both her and Taylor wearing their sweaters.

What is the perfect pot luck dish?

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Tonight is the Guild pot luck so I’ve spent some time over the last few days figuring out what I should take. I seldom take a main course dish, usually a salad or sometimes a dessert. Since I’m not eating much in the way of desserts these days I decided on a salad. But what salad?

Originally I thought I’d take a Spinach Chicken Cranberry salad. If I made it without the chicken it would serve as a vegetarian dish and if I substituted honey in the dressing with agave syrup it would also serve as vegan (I’ve had to do that on one occasion). But I’d have to buy a lot of the ingredients and it isn’t good made too far in advance (and we had a movie this afternoon) so I went looking for something else.

I make a pretty good bean salad – you know the kind with four or five different beans in it with a sort of vinegary dressing. That seemed to fit what I’m eating most days and any of the leftovers would be good to take to Texada this weekend.

But by this morning I had changed my mind again – but only slightly. I had to get a few groceries for the weekend and when I remembered that the deli at Quality Foods make a good bean salad I decided to buy some of it. Once I put it in my own crystal serving bowl it will (maybe) look like something I made myself.

Mission accomplished!

Thank you

Thank you to family and friends for all the good wishes for my birthday. I’ve had a great day doing a little bit of lots of things.

I quilted my two placemats this morning and then did a bit of sorting out for moving on Friday. After lunch I headed out to the Library, post office and Dollarama. I had books to return at the library and I never miss a chance to pick up some new ones even though I’m only half-way through the book I’m currently reading. The sitting space at the library is lovely and I sat and chatted with a friend I don’t see too often. I had a box that needed to be sent to Christy and then I shopped for a few things we need for the Texada house.

Before supper I sat and read for awhile and then after supper I came back upstairs and put the binding on my placemats. The hand stitching will either get done tomorrow or it will wait until we’re at the Texada house.

I feel like a deserter

Last week I was sure that by this week I’d be ready for a day at the Guild bee. But by last evening I had already decided I was going to stay home. I had a couple of things I wanted to make for the Texada house and, to be honest, between the interruptions for photos, chatting, library work and blog posting I really don’t accomplish much at the bee.

But I’ve done well for myself today. I managed to get all of Pat’s accounting finished this morning and his year-end paperwork has been sent to the accountant. Yesterday afternoon I completed one of my Texada projects (a holder for plastic bags) and today I have two placemat tops finished. Later this afternoon I’ll get the placemats sandwiched and my machine ready for quilting tomorrow. I definitely want to get the placemats quilted and the machine stitching for the binding done; I can always do the hand stitching on Texada.

I have a bit of work to do to get ready for the mover on Friday – not nearly as much as Pat does though. There is still a rather long shopping list, even though we’ve made trips out separately and together to pick up things. The cedar chest Dad made is going to Texada; right now it is full of quilting kits and other miscellaneous stuff but I want to clear that out and take over some half-finished hand stitching projects. And Virginia is making the move but there is a pile of stuff that needs to be cleared off it.

In spite of the fact that I am moving things out of some of my studio rooms I don’t feel like I have a lot of extra room and certainly things are no tidier. I’m anxious though to get everything settled on Texada. I think it will be a bit of a science getting things to the point where I’m not packing boxes and a suitcase every time we make the trip (I’ll be asking for ideas from Stacia and Deloise as they do trips to vacation places on a regular basis) but that is my goal.
