Needlework

IMG_0732I’ve been doing some sort of crafting all my life. I probably started with spool knitting that Dad set up for me on one of Mum’s empty thread spools (the kind made of wood). I still have that spool knitting as a project in my workbasket. What do you do with yards and yards of spool knitting?

In Brownies I progressed to knitting. In my late teens my sister-in-law and I took a knitting course. Our project was a sweater. Although I don’t have the sweater any longer, I probably have a remnant of the wool we used. I think I still have the patterns as well.

For a short time in the early ’80s I was a part-owner of a craft shop. I thought I had to try everything, and I pretty much did. Crewel embroidery was popular at the time, as well as rug hooking. Cross stitching became a favorite craft. Living in the North with small children meant lots of hats, scarves and mitts.

I did enough sewing to keep up with the mending and keep my girls in play clothes but I never really enjoyed it. I made a couple of flower girl dresses for my granddaughter, but after those I swore off sewing once again.

Then came my quilting passion. It has taken over so much of my free time that I’ve devoted an entire section of my website to it.
