Interstellar

InterstellarThe only thing I knew about the movie before going to it was that it included a stellar cast. Although Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway are the main characters, appearances by Michael Caine, Matt Damon, Judy Dench and Topher Grace kept it interesting.

This is science fiction and for the first couple of hours it follows the formula quite well. After intermission (it’s a long movie) the story got a bit weird, but believable since the plot dealt with the relativity of time (a minute in one galaxy may be a few years in another).

Big Hero 6

Big Hero 6We took four of the grandkids to see this movie over the holidays. There were accidents with popcorn and much shuffling of seats, but overall I think everyone had a good time. The kids all thought the 100+-year-old theatre was pretty cool, especially because we got to sit in the very front row!

I didn’t know what to expect from the movie; I was thinking chick flick or romantic comedy. Surprisingly it had a little more depth. The story follows the “career” of a young singer-songwriter and the out-of-work producer that helps create her album. It has a great cast, and the eventual release of the young star’s album was a happy surprise.

Her

herI wasn’t expecting much from the movie, but the trailers really didn’t do the movie justice. It is a very good story and, although the theme is bizarre, you can totally see it happening. I read somewhere that it is a very bold move to have the sexiest woman alive (Scarlett Johansson) in the movie and never show her face. The woman who introduced the movie said it was part comedy, part romance and part science fiction. The science fiction part is the only way to explain the way the men wore their pants!
